Draft response to Australian Curriculum Senior English Courses
Because of the difficult period of the school year and short time-frame for responding, the ETA has written a draft response to the ACARA consultation on the Australian Curriculum Senior English Courses. The response is in line with previous comments from members.
Please endorse or comment on the response so that we can include any changes to reflect your views more closely.
Request to pilot Oxfam Food 4 Thought resource
Oxfam Australia is seeking Year 7-10 English classrooms to pilot Food 4 Thought, Oxfam’s new online, interactive resource.
Food 4 Thought, integrates the Australian Curriculum: English with active global citizenship. Oxfam believes that English is an important tool to encourage students to develop the critical capacities to analyse, contextualise, reflect on and respond to real-world issues and use language to effect positive social change.
Year 7-10 students will explore youth-generated blogs, celebrity video-diaries, campaign materials, animations and more as part of a range of persuasive and multi-modal texts that address social justice issues. Students will develop critical and digital literacy, communication, collaboration, and the ability to form ethical and informed positions on these social justice issues in a global context.
To express your interest in piloting Food 4 Thought or for further information, please contact Sharon Settecasse, Oxfam’s Education and Leadership officer on firstname.lastname@example.org or 02 8204 3904.
Food 4 Thought is guided by the 2008 Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians, and Global Perspectives – A Framework for Education in Australian Schools.
