Vice President/President Elect

Key Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities of the Executive, the Vice President will

  • Represent the association to government, the media, other educational bodies and the community when required
  • Act as the spokesperson for the organization when the President is not available
  • Officiate at ETA events and meetings where required
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the activities of committees
  • Be prepared to take on the office of President subject to endorsement by the Executive
  • Give sufficient notice of resignation or intention not to stand to allow for smooth transition of office.

Summary of Roles

  • Serve on the Executive and attend meetings
  • Carry out special assignments as requested by the President
  • Understand the responsibilities of the President and be able to perform these duties in the President’s absence
  • Assist Executive Officers in conducting new Executive member orientation
  • Represent ETA on external committees (eg Premier’s Reading Challenge)
  • Participate as a vital part of the Executive leadership

Profile of Vice President*

The vice president should be an individual member of ETA and demonstrate:

  • Professional leadership
  • A knowledge and understanding of ETA’s mission, services, policies, and programs and concern for the development of the organisation.
  • An ability to represent and speak on behalf of the association in a range of public contexts
  • A willingness to contribute to the governance of the organisation and take responsibility for its compliance to legal requirements.
  • An ability to promote the professionalism of English teachers and to be responsive to the needs of members in the development of that professionalism.
  • An ability to work harmoniously and productively with others.
  • An interest and ability in developing certain skills (if required) to further the aims and reputation of the profession.

Time

  • 6 hours in addition to committee time on average per week.
