Executive Member- Branches

Key Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities of the Executive, the Branches Officer will

  • Provide report on Branches at Executive meetings.
  • Provide appropriate reports to the Annual Report

Summary of Roles

The Executive - Branches must

  • Undertake a duty of care for the governance of the English Teachers’ Association.
  • Maintain knowledge of the organisation and personal commitment to its goals and objectives
  • Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies.
  • Attend board meetings and ETA events.
  • Review agenda and supporting materials prior to meetings.
  • Promote ETA at local and state level.
  • Serve as the Liaison Officer for the organization and its Branches.
  • Provide a link with professional support for Branches
  • Manage, with the Executive, ongoing review of and action related to the board's responsibilities towards regional Branches.
  • Work with the Treasurer to ensure that the appropriate financial arrangements for Branches occur
  • Prepare an annual record of Branches in operation and their contact information and present to the Executive.
  • Review the operation of Branches annually and answer Executive members' questions about them

Profile of Executive Member - Branches

The Executive Member - Branches should be an individual member of ETA and demonstrate:

  • A knowledge and understanding of ETA’s mission, services, policies, and programs and concern for the development of the organisation.
  • A willingness to contribute to the governance of the organisation and take responsibility for maintaining contact with ETA Branches.
  • An interest in the professionalism of English teachers and an ability to be responsive to the needs of members in the development of that professionalism.
  • An ability to work harmoniously and productively with others.
  • An ability to develop working relationships with ETA members in regional Branches
  • An understanding of the experience of teaching in regional areas and managing varying degrees of professional isolation
  • An interest and ability in developing strong links among regional members and between the branches and the metropolitan association.

Time

  • 2 hours in addition to committee time on average per week.
