The Curriculum and Assessment committee researches, develops and promotes ETA’s curriculum and assessment policy to ensure the quality and appropriateness of the experience of English for students.
Key responsibilities
- Research best practice in teaching and its informing theories
- Collaborate in composing curriculum and assessment policy and papers
- Development of a firm identity for the discipline
- Participate in committee meetings online or in person
Summary of roles
- Identifying issues, theory and practice which should be addressed by the ETA Executive
- Identifying and researching areas for the development of position statements
- Writing position statements
- Advocacy (within the association) to promote professional awareness
- Advocacy (external to the Association)
- Gathering information for Executive to use in discussions with government, comments to media etc.
- Collaboration with external bodies
- Gathering and disseminating information about curriculum and assessment within the organization and to external bodies
- Collaborating with people in other areas of expertise (e.g. Media) to increase effective dissemination of information
- Providing relevant information on areas of professional need to the professional development committee
Profile of Committee Members
A member of the Curriculum and Assessment Committee should be an individual member of ETA and demonstrate:
- A good working knowledge of the English curriculum in NSW
- Interest in researching curriculum and assessment issues
- Willingness to contribute to professional dialogue
- Willingness to collaborate in writing projects
- Willingness and capacity to promote ETA at local and state level
- Responsiveness to the needs of the ETA
- Regular participation in committee meetings (physical, telephone, online) and committee work
- Attendance at ETA events
Time Commitment
- 2 hours each week in total (on average throughout the year)
- 2-3 meetings throughout the year to do face-to-face revision
